Paul’s Date

March 27, 2007

paul-and-linda-marry.jpgI’m not going to make a habit of commenting on newspaper stories about “the divorce” (shades of the 1930s) but one in the March 25, 2007 — The Mirror Is more then just a bit too much.
MACCA: OUT OF THE FRYING PAN by Carole Malone
But the biggest drawback is that Ms Guinness, 52, has spent most of her adult life ricocheting from one unsuitable man to another. There was a time when she had relationships with almost every top-ranking musician ever to have a hit – Rod Stewart, Mick Jagger and Bryan Ferry to name but a few.
I realize it’s too much to expect a tabloid editor to draw the line at puerile accusations based on abysmal ignorance. That’s their basic stock in trade. Not only does Ms Malone obviously consider dating rockers and princes for fun (and no doubt for games) is the equivalent of putting out to Arab arms dealers for cash; she tries to reanimate the fictional feud between The Beatles and the Rolling Stones – which only existed in the imaginations of earlier tabloid geniuses and a second-rate record company that dropped the golden ball on The Beatles.
She also is apparently oblivious to the fact that Paul’s “good wife” Linda had her own flings with many of the same rockers before she married Paul. Or that Paul could manage a pretty darn good fling his ownself.
Frankly, I think any single woman of 50-something who doesn’t have a “past” can safely be assumed to be too boring for Paul.

Dancing with the “Stars”

March 20, 2007

Faded almost stars attempting to restart careers no better then tepid originally, with a sprinkling of sports wannabees possessing little more then youth.
They must have saved a bundle on those putative singers and musicians! I’ve rarely heard worse in a “house band” on TV.

Outside of noting that the first female contestant had the lowest bosum I’ve ever seen, at 66 I ride considerably higher, I can’t help thinking that standing the “contentants” in a wallflower line is very clearly showing their desperation to be somebody again, anybody!

I’ve never been a fan of reality shows exploiting the misery or unrealistic aspirations of more or less failed people, starting with the vomitious Queen For A Day — and it doesn’t look as if it’s ever going to end — explaining why last night is the first time I’ve watched anything but a movie on a non-PBS station in several years.

I’m late in meeting my deadline and I doubt I’ll be posting again this week, but I’ve pages and pages of notes that will be going up regularly very soon. I promised some Beatles friends that I’d post the photo of me with the gentlemen of BeatlemaniaNow so here it is.beatlesandme.JPG

Some idle questions

March 2, 2007

Did George Martin get paid a fee for playing on a Beatles recording session?
Why did Yoko kick John out for his “lost weekend”?
Who was the older man dancing right behind Ringo in the Peppermint Lounge footage? I almost can recognize him.

P.S. This is NOT a quiz and I do NOT know the answers!
